Four of Seven Rows Done — And More KFC Blues

I’m off work for the remainder of the weekend. I’m really looking forward to some time off and hope to get a lot of sewing done, get some rest, and get outside.

I dug in after work this evening and got four of the seven rows of my batik improv quilt top assembled. I should be able to get the top finished tomorrow afternoon. Then I decide how big the outer borders will be and will get them on before I call this done.

I got another batch of blue KFC fabrics today. This package was from Island Quilter on Vashon Island, Washington. . . another one of my favorite online sources for KFC fabrics. They had some older designs that I hadn’t found anywhere else.

I realized that I already bought a piece of that Enchanted , second from the left on the top row. Oh well. I’ll use it some time.

Here’s all the blue fabrics I’ve ordered in the last couple of weeks. A quick count tells me there are 59 half yards. So a total of almost 30 yards.

One thing I love about KFC fabrics is that a big old stack of “blue” fabrics has all kinds of amazing color! I can’t wait to start putting combos together for a blue 16-patch!

I have one more order of 15 more half-yard pieces coming from Material Girl fabrics. They had some nice lighter blues and older prints as well. Once I get those, I’ll start thinking more seriously about fabric combos.

  1. All the blue fabrics 🙂 don’t you just want to stop,drop and roll around in them? So pretty! The blue 16 patch sounds good and I know you will enjoy putting it together. They would look good in the scrappy trip around the world on your last post too. I made Bonnie Hunter’s scrappy bargello out of batiks which is the long strip one but same process as the trip around the world. Easier than it looks and thank you Lord my seams matched up! Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and plenty of time to enjoy it 🙂 I so enjoy reading your blog and all your pictures, especially of the boys! Thank you!

    1. Thanks Pam! I have too many quilts I want to make and not enough time. No idea what I’ll do with all of these quilts. But Kaffe fabrics will be next. But I’m thinking a batik sixteen patch may be in my near future. It would be fun to dig into my batik stash and put a plan together. Happy holidays!

  2. That stack of newly purchased Kaffes makes my heart flutter. I I have quite a good stash of Kaffes, including two kits which I’ll begin in the new year. Over the Holiday weekend I’ll be sewing on the border of my version of Jelly Roll Race. I’ll be alone on Christmas Day but that doesn’t bother me at all. I’ll be in my studio with all my “toys” – playing! Merry Christmas to you.

    1. I’ll be home alone most of the holiday, but will take a nice long walk Christmas day with some friends and dogs. And I’m cooking dinner tonight and delivering it to friends. Then they’ll bring me dinner tomorrow. It will be a quiet holiday but I’m ready for it and i hope to be productive. Happy holidays!

    1. That’s a great store if you’re ever in the Pacific Northwest. They have a ton of Kaffe fabrics. But their online service is really good too. They also come to the local quilt shows. Remember when we had public events like quilt shows?

      1. I only started quilting during lockdown last year, so alas, no, I don’t remember quilt shows. Someday! And someday I’ll be back in the Pacific Northwest, I hope – I think I mentioned that I used to live in Seattle, and it’s my favorite of all the places I’ve lived.
