We’ve been having some really rainy weather. It literally rained all day today. My poor dogs were not happy that we didn’t get a mid day walk. I wasn’t very happy about it either. The work days when I’m not able to get out mid day are difficult work days.
We did get a little break in the weather at 5:00 or so and I geared up and we headed out. We walked three miles, which takes us a little less than an hour. Most of the walk was in rain… soaking rain… mist… light rain… drizzle. We were wet by the time we got home, but we were much happier than when we were dry.
Since I didn’t get my walk mid day, I used part of my lunch break and made the zipper placket for my yellow Frankenbag.

After our wet walk this evening, I got it all applied to the bag that I finished last night. It works fine to do it after the bag is done. But it’s a little easier to line it all up if it’s sewn to the lining when the two lining pieces are flat.

I think the onion rings fabric was the right choice. It even looks like I was very careful in lining up the pattern on the fabric. I’ll let you believe that’s the case… and that it’s not just a happy accident!
I also took a few minutes to sew on my label. I just love these labels! They are the perfect finishing touch.

Here’s a few more photos of the finished bag.

While I had my needle and thread out, I decided to sew the tag on the Aboriginal fabrics bag I finished last week.

That’s two late holiday gifts done. Two more to go!
A friend of mine named Mary Basu painted this picture of Bender. She really captured him! I’ve added the original photo too. Check her out on Instagram and see some of her creativity at work.

We have a couple more days of rain coming up and then we’ll get a patch of some really lovely weather! I could really use a break from the rain and I’m hoping I’ll actually get to see the sun!

This forecast is even better because I have sheep herding lessons on Saturday and Sunday!
Great bag – I love yellow! I imagine the extra long zipper tail will stay inside the bag better than a short one. May I ask where you get your labels made?

the tail on this zipper is much longer than it needs to be. I like a zipper that is longer than the placket because it allows you to open the bag really wide. But this zipper is just too long. I just ordered some new zippers that are shorter for the top, and an inch longer for the pocket. I still have a couple of these long ones to use up first.
here’s the Etsy seller where I got my labels. https://www.etsy.com/shop/AllThisWood?fbclid=IwAR2z01G-8-hWRfo0EVKS-RHq_vGVeU8kRJbn4NzWIRMFEyXHhYEgjUz8a8c

I was talking to a friend tonight as I took my walk. We were laughing because I got home at 7:30 and wondered what I was going to do with all the time I had before I had to go to bed! It seemed like forever! so we continued to talk for another 1.5 hours!!! So no sewing tonight! But I think I’ll start a new bag tomorrow night!

What a happy bag! Have you posted anywhere about how you got into your dogs and all their various activities? You are the perfect dog mom to those boys! You know how much energy they have and give them activities geared toward their particular breed. They are darling.

I have not posted about how I got into dogs, but I should. Bender is #4 and Rico is #5. I had Jack Russells before border collies. There is a bit of a story there. I’ll have to think about a blog post about the dogs.! thanks for the idea.

Aww that’s an awesome painting of Bender. He’s such a sweetie abs so it’s your friend for doing the portrait. I’m sure the boys don’t mind the rain but be careful with all that slippery ground. This yellow bag has to be one of my favorites you’ve made. I’m a sucker for black and whites. And Who Hoo for the universe lining up the onion rings. 🥳

My boys would be happy to take a walk through fire. they don’t mind getting wet at all. But they are a mess when we get home! I’ve been dealing with so many muddy paws with all our rain!
I’m glad you like this bag. I wanted to use A LOT of black and whites and I like the way it turned out.

Yellow is my second favorite color so your latest bag rocks! The portrait of Bender is perfect and I followed the art link. You’re fortunate to have such a talented friend 👏🏻😊 Also, could you please tell us again who makes your personalized leather tags? Too many choices on Etsy and I’d rather purchase from a known company. Thanks for your inspiring blog! It brightens my day and I always learn something.

Your bags are so amazing. This one with the zebra zipper section is really outstanding. I love seeing your many bags evolve. I’m just curious, do you sell them? I am always envious of sewers who can sell their creations.

I do sell them when I have them available. I do not make them to order. I like to make things that I’m inspired to make. If someone wants to buy one, that’s great. But I don’t love making things based on an order. the fun goes out of it for me.

Plus… it’s really hard to sell them for a price that represents the time and work that goes into them. A lot of people aren’t willing to place value on a maker’s time.

I’m new to your blog and I really enjoy reading it and seeing all your lovely bags. I have a question–what do you do with the open ends of the zipper? Fold it under, just leave it or what? Thanks.

I assume you’re talking about the zipper placket. I just sew them flat… I don’t do anything special with them. It works best with the way I make my placket.

I so appreciate your precise workmanship. Your sewing skills are outstanding, and I enjoy your designs and color choices. Have you considered a zipper placket that is not open at both ends so nothing could fall out? If I knew how to attach a photo, I would show you what I did to a bag that I made several years ago. It is a different style bag, though.

I actually don’t mind the zipper placket open on both ends. I don’t need this to keep tiny things in, just to keep the larger things in. The zipper pocket would work to hold anythign that might fall out the openings at the top of the bag.
but go ahead and see if you can figure it out!
