I’m a raging introvert. I really like my time alone to recharge. So after having company I can feel completely wiped out, even if I totally enjoyed having that company around. So I’m not feeling particularly driven to be productive right now. But I did muster just a little bit of sewing tonight.
I felt like I wanted to do something, but since I’m tired I didn’t want to do anything that required measuring or precision. So I decided to whip out the six additional quarter log cabin sunburst blocks I need to complete this quilt.

It didn’t take too long to have them all sewn together and squared up to 8.5 inches.

I didn’t have enough oomph left to cut and sew on the sashing strips. I can easily get that done tomorrow night and get these blocks back up on the design wall.

It will sew together pretty quickly. the blocks are 8.5 inches plus 3 inch sashing. It’s only 32 blocks in total. The quilt won’t be huge. I’ll add setting triangles I the same jumble. And an additional jumble border to make those blocks float like dumplings in a lovely soup of jumble. Yum!
It will be a throw size quilt that isn’t huge, but is sufficient.
I also didn’t have enough oomph left to clean up the mess I made.

Our winter weather continues, much to my displeasure. Just two weeks ago I was all cocky that spring had arrived. I guess that will teach me to be fooled by our fake spring that almost always arrives in February. But… the really good news is that Daylight Saving Time arrives in about a week-and-a-half! That truly is my favorite day of the year! I would have it be dark until 10 am if I could have more light in the evening during the winters. I LOVE the long summer light in the evenings.
It snowed on and off most of today but didn’t accumulate. We didn’t have a chance to get out for a walk until around 4:15. It wasn’t raining or snowing when we started, but by the time we hit mile 2, there was an enthusiastic and wet snow falling.

The boys were covered with snow and nearly soaked to the skin.

I stopped to take this photo when we were at about 3.5 miles of our four-mile walk.

Someone in that photo looks happier than the other two.
The weather tomorrow looks dry so I’m hoping my schedule will allow an afternoon walk.
I leave you with this boop-able schnoz tonight.

Besides the nose, love the cute pink tongue!

Introvert here too. People don’t understand that you need time to recover even if you have had a great time. We had our first snowstorm yesterday in southern CT—weird winter.

Yeah, people think introverts are shy. There’s not a shy bone in me. But I do need my time alone on a regular basis.
it has been a weird winter here too. And I’m ready for spring. March is usually spring here so I’m hopeful.

I don’t know whether I am an introvert or not, but I need my quiet time, my “me” time. Somehow during the seasons where we have more daylight hours, I feel more energized, and in the dark months I’m happy to hibernate, just like the bears I guess. It’s snowing here this morning, a fine dry sort of snow, probably just the warm up to the snowstorm forecast for tomorrow. When you live in a maritime climate you get used to having three types of weather in a 24 hour period. Yesterday though, we had sunshine the entire day. I basked in it. And let’s have a party on the day DST arrives. Love those days

I’m up for a part on Sun day!!! it’s the best day!
We’re lucky that we do’t get a lot of cold in the winter, but we do get a lot of wet. but all that wet means it’s gorgeous here with all sorts of trees and plants… and so much blooming in the spring!

I’m with you on the clock change. Can’t wait for more evening light. Snow on the ground gives a sense of more light but real light means flowers soon! Really loving this quilt but don’t you have to finish your brother’s borders? Is there a time frame on his?
Puppies are so adorable even covered in snow.

There’s really no time frame on anything I make. I’ll get the borders done. there’s no deadline. I have other things I want to do right now, and I want to be fresh when I do the borders. Don’t want to mess it up now.

I really do love walking in the snow, that that snow yesterday was pretty wet! We all survived!
We have a lot of rain coming our way. March should start to warm up but will likely be wet. Soon everything will start to bloom! spring here is wonderful!

I to am ready for longer days , actually sun would be a real treat . Woke yesterday to 6 inches of snow in the driveway, I’ve got 5 ft drifts in my front yard . Winter is an adventure! At least when it snows it’s warmer. Love the wet nose , dogs love snow ( not sure why ) but mine love to run in it with heads down in snowplow position very funny . Happy down time .

Five foot drifts! That sounds really cold!
And yes… my dogs love the snow. That’s one thing that I miss about living in place where we don’t get a lot of snow. the dogs really miss out. Rain isn’t anywhere near as much fun as snow!

It’s amazing that a design as simple as that jumble can be so amazing. I probably use it way too much but I love it!

Sunburst block on point, floating on Jumble – Just love it. Wow, that was a whole week of sewing marathon! Both you and your friend accomplished a lot! We are getting much needed rain as well, here in SoCal. It has been a very cold February and going into March! Enjoy your down time!!

I just realized our March came in like a lamb. I hope that’s not bad for the rest of the month. March here really is spring. So I’m feeling like this may be our last of winter.

Hello agilejack! I’m a Kaffe Fassett fan also and follow your blog (adorable doggies) – your quilts are wonderful – but this log cabin fabric with the jumble white dot sashing is particularly striking. Could you let me know what other main fabrics you used (some are very familiar – others not) and some instructions? (I’ve read your previous discussions on this quilt but that sashing brought it to a new level for me!)
Thank you, Laura McCabe

I’m using my Kaffe Fassett Collective scraps. There are probably more than 100 different fabrics in this quilt! I’m basically using anything and everything in my scrap bucket. You can really go wild in combining fabrics.
The block is basically a quarter log cabin block. you can find lots of tutorials for this block on YouTube. I start with the little starburst from Kaffe Fassett’s Starburst fabric. It’s out of print and getting really hard to find. You can use any fabric for this that you want.
I cut the starbursts approximately 3.5 inches square. Then I added strips to two sides of the starburst and just keep adding rows until it’s big enough that I can square it up to 8.5 inches.
My fabric strips vary from about 1 inch wide to a little over 2 inches wide. They are all placed randomly. There is not plan or pattern to how I place my fabrics in each blocks. I so try to not put two different fabrics of the same color right next to each other.
then the blocks are sashed with 3 inch wide strips.
that’s it! It’s a pretty simple quilt.

Anne,
Thanks so much for your speedy reply! I think this will be my “get back to sewing already!” project – and I want it as a wall hanging.
I’m pretty good at finding out if print fabric online – but since most things I’ve made are for others, I don’t have too much of my favorite fabric scraps left.

You could start with a couple of different jelly rolls and trim them down. That would give you lots of variety.
