I had really hoped to finish up the four remaining Wensleydale blocks this weekend but it just wasn’t going to happen. The only time I spent in my sewing room was this evening. I had a busy weekend.
Here’s the two blocks I finished up tonight. And I LOVE them.

I tossed them in with some I made the other night just to see how they look.

And some large photos because I love looking at them.

Maybe I’ll actually finish the last two blocks tomorrow night.
I got up way too early yesterday morning so I could be ready to play pickleball at 8 am!!! I can’t really believe I did that on a Saturday! But I had a blast and really wore myself out. I played outdoors and it was a gorgeous day! It was so nice to be outside in the sun.
When I got home from Pickleball I had enough time to take the boys for a nice walk before I had to hit the road again. I noticed that the roses in my neighborhood are starting to bloom.

My yellow rose has exploded in the last few days.

My rhododendron, however, is not quite so spectacular. I noticed today that it only has three blooms on it.

And I can’t see any buds that are waiting to open. This plant is usually just covered with blooms. I did notice that there’s a lot of new growth on it.

I wonder if this is just a cyclical thing. I sort of remember that I’ve had pathetic blooms in the past.
Once we were back from our walk and had some Cheerios for lunch (yes, Cheerios make a fantastic lunch!) I tossed my boys in the car and we were on our way to Carlton, Oregon. It’s southwest of me an hour and is in the heart of Oregon’s wine country. I was headed there to drop off my quilts with the long armer who is trading quilt tops for quilting. I took twelve quilt tops with me (six with backings and binding) and came home with none! It’s exciting to know that I’m going to have some gorgeous quilts coming home soon. And it’s nice to get my closet drawers cleaned out.
I really enjoyed the drive. . . gorgeous rolling hills of farm land, Hazelnut groves and vineyards. I took the back way home and love every second of it.

I dropped the dogs off at home and headed to the garden store to buy my annual food type plants. I bought four tomato plants, a few strawberry plants and three varieties of lettuce.

And I got them all planted before dinner. My tomato plants are in this larger stock tank.

My lettuce is planted in a smaller stock tank.

The stock tank at the top of this photo with the netting is where my strawberries are planted. I add a handful of new plants each year.
I took the boys for a nice three-mile walk when I got home. I was exhausted and didn’t have any oomph left to do any sewing.
I slept in this morning and sort of just had a lazy morning. Then I left at 12:30 to play 2.5 hours of pickleball. And I had a blast! I’m trying out some loaner paddles from a store and I played with one today that I just love. I’m probably going to have go buy one now.
Once home from Pickleball I took the boys for a nice three mile walk. It was a gorgeous evening. I even had to put on a sweatshirt!

Another work week, then I’ll have a four day weekend with lots of pickleball and a sheep herding trial for Rico.
Anne, I love, love, love the Wensleydale blocks!! Can;t wait to start one myself, but have a couple of projects to finish first. Also on the Rhodie front, as a former Washingtonian, I hace about 40 of them in my yard and it was a chore but every year I pinched the dead blossoms off to encourage the next years output. It seemed to work, but once in a while there was a season that didn’t produce as much blossom as expected. Love your veggie garden. I was not able to get anything in this year as have been quite ill, hopefully next year will bring more production of that sort. Take care and as always enjoyed your blog. Deb

I’ll have to put more effort into pinching of the blooms. I pretty much ignore this plan and it thrives anyway!
I don’t plant much of a veggie garden. Really only care about tomatoes. but have space for little more.

Those new blocks really sing! I love the little bit if added color in the dark batik make the lighter center stand out. Looking forward to seeing it all together!
Roses already?! Wow. Busy weekend here too. Started sewing a shirt. Finally got some rain overnight Friday and into Saturday morning. Went to our wine district and did some tasting at our favorite winery.
Sunday worked on the lasagna bed. It’s big probably 4’x20′. One more layer to go and then we’ll see how it goes. Peonies in bud for the first time I am letting them bloom. Looking forward to the seeing them. Grilled twice on Sunday, lunch and dinner, yum.

I think those little pops of color in the darker batiks really make this quilt. That color was needed while still being true to teh indigo theme.
Our peonies are just starting to open. There are some real beauties around here!

Am I confused? 12 quilts? I thought there were only 6? Did you post all 12 photos? You’ve been really busy haven’t you. I guess I wasn’t paying attention. Love those batiks you’re using right now. Photos do not do it justice I’m sure. Your photos of your area are always a nice treat. As are boy photos!! Planted my tomatoes as well.

Six are the ones I’m giving to the quilter in exchange for her quilting six for me. I did do a blog post a few months ago about the four she wanted, but I gave her an additional two because I want to be fair and I’d like to be able to continue this relationship if she’s interested. It is a good arrangement for both of us.

I really miss roses with a strong scent
That dark green with black is making me jealous- it’s exactly the kind of thing I like to make dresses out of 😀

Love your new blocks and of course love all those perfect points. Your blooming roses are ahead of our area I think because there aren’t many roses blooming here now. In fact, most of our blooming bushes are over. I love fresh tomatoes but I’m not good at growing them. I do enjoy looking at others garden vegetables so please take pictures.

Tomatoes are really the only reason to grow a garden for me. It’s so hard to buy a good tomato so I have go grow them. It’s not easy to grow tomatoes here. I stick to cherry varieties because I have good luck with them. I don’t have luck with regular tomatoes but I have a friend who does, so he keeps me in summer tomatoes!

You sure keep very active. That is a good thing! It is interesting that you are just now planting tomatoes. We have been eating ours for about 3 weeks. We can plant in March. You have a longer growing season in summer. It gets too hot here. Your blocks are spectacular! And all your roses too!
Enjoy your long weekend coming up 💕 Hi Rico and Bender 🥰

I usually try to have my tomatoes planted around Mother’s Day. They would sit in the ground and rot if I planted them in March!

Wow! You certainly keep on the go. I can’t wait to see the quilts when they are finished. The scenery is certainly beautiful where you live. I haven’t tackled any difficult quilting patterns. Working on a 9 disappearing quilt pattern now of all black and white material. I just love all of your quilt patterns and reading about your days.

this wasn’t terribly difficult, especially if you have experience with paper piecing. It does take more time than traditional piecing.
I’ve always wanted to make a black and white quilt. I even have a Pinterest board of black and white quilts.

Maybe the weather affected our rhodies; mine didn’t bloom at all, just went straight to new growth. Our son’s rhodies did the same thing. We live in NW Wa state. Hmmm….
Just love your Wensleydale blocks!!!

Might have. I’ll have to pay attention more. I have seen them have a similar sad blooming season. It was a long, wet and dreary winter! I’m glad it’s finally over.

I love the points in paper piecing! I’d never get my points that nice if I did these with traditional piecing.
Oh yes.. yakima is not far from here!

The newest blocks are absolutely stunning! These blocks altogether will , make a beautiful quilt. I wonder how much more time it takes to make this many paper pieced blocks compared to making the same number of regular 16 patch or similar blocks?

These blocks were pretty slow to make. I think I calculated that it took a half hour to make each one, but it seems like that last few I made were quicker. It definitely takes more time to do them with teh paper piecing method. But I like the precision. My points would all be chopped off if I did these the traditional way!
