I drove my friend Linda to the airport this morning. It was snowing when we left my house. When I got home the sun was actually shining.

Good grief… my street sort of look abandoned!
I’m really glad I took all day today off. It was nice to unwind, do some laundry, tidy some things up, and generally settle in after my vacation.
The house in incredibly quiet. I really enjoyed my visit with Linda. We were so lucky to get a few days of good weather. We were very productive. We bought a lot of fabric. We ate a lot of tacos. And we laughed.
When Linda was packing last night she was working on finding places in her suit case for all the fabric she bought on her visit. While doing this she counted up everything she bought — over 60 half yards of fabric, plus one five yard piece for a backing!!! That’s a total of 35 yards of fabric!!! More than enough for seven quilts!
I’m happy to say that I didn’t buy that much fabric, but I did pretty well. I think I ended up at around 15 yards of fabric purchased while she was here.
It’s a good thing I already have my next quilt in the works. Here’s an idea of what it will look like. My house is quiet, but this quilt is not!

I’ll still need to arrange how all those fabrics appear in the quilt.
Those area all Brandon Mably fabrics and are part of the Kaffe Fasssett Collective. They’re pretty crazy! In a good way! I’ve wanted to make a quilt from all Brandon fabrics for some time. And this idea just came to me the other night.
Here’s the pattern I’m making.

I’ve seen several of these made up in the last few days and there are really fun. I want to make one out of black and white fabrics with a little color soon.
I started cutting fabric for this new quilt tonight. I got all the fabric for the horizontal strips cut.

I was too tired to start cutting all the accent and background fabrics. I’ll take a couple days to get all of that done.

I still need to add the plaid borders to my Flower Baskets quilt top. I’ll get that done before I start sewing on this new quilt.
Back to work tomorrow. I’m glad it will be a short week.
Bender is helping me celebrate the ridiculous amount of fabric in this house!

Aww, sweet Bender! He sure looks good in Kaffe.
Ha ha. Great photo of Bender. I’d like to submit your photo to our
guild newsletter person with your permission. We’re the Pacific Spirit
Quilters Guild in Burnaby, BC.

“Bender Balancing by the Flower Baskets” needs to be framed and hanging in your quilting room, Anne! Such a great pic!!!! Can’t wait to see the Brandon/Interweave project develop.
Haha! I just commented to someone else that I needed to hang that photo in my quilting room!
the Brandon quilt will definitely be an interesting one!
Anne
Hi Anne…
Gosh! The photo of Bender is magic!!! What a natural model he is.
He is very cooperative and has a lot of experience posing for photos. Sort of a natural.
Anne
I like the pattern, looks like another bright beauty of a quilt is in the works! Bender shows off the new fabric well, he just automatically brings on the smiles !
This will definitely be a bright and bold quilt. It will be fun to see it come together.
Anne
I love the fabric arrangement you threw together for the photo, all the colors and patterns feel so energetic and joyful! I love this variation of the quilt pattern too. I haven’t seen it before.
I agree Bender just looks so handsome and comfortable wearing his fabric hat. I always look forward to every aspect of your posts!
this quilt will be interesting. Definitely vibrant and a little wild. But that makes me happy!
Bender is a good kid. Very cooperative and happy to take part.
Anne
The picture of Bender definitely needs to be enlarged, framed and hung. It’s just a great picture. Your new quilt is going to be stunning, I think I’d like to make it too. Someday….
that photo would look good in my sewing room!
Anne
Is Bender’s photo heading to Facebook? Gosh he’s cute. You certainly didn’t take much down time after your friend left. Of course new fabric is energizing! You’re on a roll with some really special quilts lately. Good for us!
It’s been on FB a couple times! It’s a good photo. Have to get a lot of mileage out of it.
Anne
The LOVE in that dogs eyes! Sounds like you had a very fun & productive vacation! I am sorry it is over and it’s so quiet for you. You give me so much enjoyment when I can read about what you are up to and the pictures you send us of your quilts and all the beautiful places you go. You often make me wish I had been there with you!!! That next quilt is simply gorgeous!!! Everything you come up with, you have a real talent for putting fabrics together! Keep your awesome designs and blogs up please! You bring sunshine to all of us!
Vacation is never long enough, but this one sort of wore me out. I’ve been so tired this week.
putting the fabrics and colors together is my favorite part of making a quilt.
Thanks for reading!
Anne
Linda left just in time, glad you had such great weather for her stay. We got up to 86 yesterday and tomorrow should be 55. 😉 Just up and down for a while. Bender is just precious 😻🥰😍
It’s been pouring rain since Linda left. My friend told me that we got 1.75 inches of rain overnight! It’s so wet. But that means the spring will be wonderful!
Anne
OMG…. Every time you make a quilt I think it’s the best yet. This newest one gave me a physical jolt. Your versi
that’s a good reaction! You know it’s good when you have a physical reaction!!!
Anne
Bender:
”I dunno what you’re up to, mom. But it’ll be fun and I’m game!”
He is!!! All I have to say is, “Do you wanna…” and he’s ready to go!!!
Anne
I love your quilts and your loving dogs!!
Me too!
Anne
Wow …. Bender is such a photo dog! LOL
He is very photogenic and cooperative.
Anne
Nothing like tacos, fabric, and friendship. Opps, and having dogs in the house too!! I so enjoy your posts – I have 3 dogs, and one plays frisbee. Thank you!!
that’s a pretty good combo! My friend was concerned that we had eaten tacos four times while she was here. I told her that was the perfect taco-to-vacation day ratio!
Anne
Can’t wait to see that Brandon Mably Festival of Quilt you have in mind! And your idea about a black, white and one colour rendition of the Interweave is a good idea. I did a class with Krista Hennebury (Speed Date with Improv) and we worked in black, white and one colour. The results are stunning (and up on instagram). Give Bender an extra cookie for bringing my first smile of the day!
that Brandon quilt will be wild. I’m not sure I’m able to picture it accurately yet. But it should be fun, regardless of how it turns out.
I’ll check out the speed date thing. I’ve wanted to make a black and white quilt for some time.
Anne
Cute picture of the dog.
Hard to take a pic of him when he’s not cute!
anne
What a patient little doggy to let you pile fabric on his head.
He has gotten a lot of cookies over his life for sitting still with stuff on his head. He is now an expert!
Anne
I love the photo of Bender. I would never have been able to make one of my dogs sit still for that long!
Very unexpected choices for Interweave. Having made one version of it, I would suggest that you put it up on your design wall before sewing anything and put everything back up as you sew. I moved and swapped out many pieces after my initial layout. Plus, it’s really easy to mess up the intended order of them; if you look closely at the ones folks have posted, you will observe that. 😉
Bender is an expert poser. He has a lot of experience with it and has gotten a lot of good boy cookies for posing.
I plan to make the rows and then arrange them in order. It would be handy to have Linda here to sew while I organize and pin!
Anne
Bender is such a good sport! Great pic!
he’s a very good poser! Loves to be involved1
Anne
Hay Bender. You are the sweetest!
He’s a good kid!
Anne
Bender’s pic made me actually LOL! What a good boy he is.
Love the fabric choices!
He is a very cooperative subject!
Anne
Bender is just too cute!! I’m exhausted just reading about all you’ve accomplished in the last few days with Linda. You inspire me. I’d like to do the flower basket quilt but not too sure if I’m crazy about the plaid. I even went out and bought the book “Quilts by the sea”. Yours looks fantastic, so we’ll see, maybe it will grow on me.
Oh man… for me the plaid makes that quilt!!! I love it!!! it ads so much vibrancy and variation to such a dark quilt.
I love that book. there are several quilts in there I want to make.
Anne
I was reading some of the comments and noticed that they had 86* F weather!! Here is Alberta it is -21 C feels like -30 with the wind chill🥶❄️. But tomorrow it will be +5 C. and then back to the minus temps for the weekend. 🤷🏼♀️ That’s winter life in Alberta ☃️🇨🇦
I’m so glad I don’t have to deal with those terribly cold temps here. We’ve just had a really wet winter. The last few weeks have been really rainy. A friend of mine told me we got 1.75 inches of rain last night! it’s so wet! But we’ll have a wonderful spring with all that water.
Anne
i’ve been thinking about your plaid border. Just wondering if it would look good on the bias!
Oh. I would hate to have to manage a totally bias quilt edge. I’ll leave that to someone who has a stronger constitution than I do!
Anne
That’s going to be exciting!
I was thinking about making an all Brandon quilt too since my stash of his fabric is exceeding the shelf space. I haven’t decided on a pattern yet.
I can’t wait to see it. Mine is mostly newer designs except for the jumble. It would be fun to see one made with your extensive collection!
Anne
Awwww, Bender melts my heart!
He’s a good kid.
Anne
Love the fabrics, and Bender is adorable! Can’t wait to see your beautiful quilts when they are finished.
Bender is Mister Cooperative. Loves to have his photo taken!
Anne
I can’t imagine my life without wonderful fabrics or my boys!!!
Thanks for reading!
Anne
Bender looks fabulous!!! Made my day.
Wonderful selection of fabrics. I liked the pattern you proposed.
Can hardly wait to see how that is accomplished.
Bender is a good by. makes my quilts look really good!
Anne
OMG how did you get Bender to pose for that photo! I laughed out loud!!!
PJ Kytlica 805-660-4400
He is a posing master! He would sit there and let me take 100 photos and they would all be excellent! He has a lot of experience posing.
Anne
You are the best enabler I know😂💖. I’m ordering the pattern interweave, and some more Kaffe or maybe some Jason Yenter or who knows? Thanks again your quilt is looking fantastic already
funny how that works. I’ve seen several really cool Interweave quilts in the last week or so and now I have so many ideas for them!!! it’s like heroin!!!
Anne
Anne, You and Bender crack me up;) He is such a willing poser<3 ardine
He almost demands to be in all the photos! He would sit there and let me take 100 photos and they would all look exactly the same!
Anne
Love that dog! Love to see the pictures of both of them.
He’s a good dog.
