All Alone. Quiet. Except for this New Project

I drove my friend Linda to the airport this morning. It was snowing when we left my house. When I got home the sun was actually shining.

Good grief… my street sort of look abandoned!

I’m really glad I took all day today off. It was nice to unwind, do some laundry, tidy some things up, and generally settle in after my vacation.

The house in incredibly quiet. I really enjoyed my visit with Linda. We were so lucky to get a few days of good weather. We were very productive. We bought a lot of fabric. We ate a lot of tacos. And we laughed.

When Linda was packing last night she was working on finding places in her suit case for all the fabric she bought on her visit. While doing this she counted up everything she bought — over 60 half yards of fabric, plus one five yard piece for a backing!!! That’s a total of 35 yards of fabric!!! More than enough for seven quilts!

I’m happy to say that I didn’t buy that much fabric, but I did pretty well. I think I ended up at around 15 yards of fabric purchased while she was here.

It’s a good thing I already have my next quilt in the works. Here’s an idea of what it will look like. My house is quiet, but this quilt is not!

I’ll still need to arrange how all those fabrics appear in the quilt.

Those area all Brandon Mably fabrics and are part of the Kaffe Fasssett Collective. They’re pretty crazy! In a good way! I’ve wanted to make a quilt from all Brandon fabrics for some time. And this idea just came to me the other night.

Here’s the pattern I’m making.

I’ve seen several of these made up in the last few days and there are really fun. I want to make one out of black and white fabrics with a little color soon.

I started cutting fabric for this new quilt tonight. I got all the fabric for the horizontal strips cut.

I was too tired to start cutting all the accent and background fabrics. I’ll take a couple days to get all of that done.

I still need to add the plaid borders to my Flower Baskets quilt top. I’ll get that done before I start sewing on this new quilt.

Back to work tomorrow. I’m glad it will be a short week.

Bender is helping me celebrate the ridiculous amount of fabric in this house!

Keep your awesome designs and blogs up please! You bring sunshine to all of us!

    1. Vacation is never long enough, but this one sort of wore me out. I’ve been so tired this week.

putting the fabrics and colors together is my favorite part of making a quilt.

      Thanks for reading!

  8. Linda left just in time, glad you had such great weather for her stay. We got up to 86 yesterday and tomorrow should be 55. 😉 Just up and down for a while. Bender is just precious 😻🥰😍

    1. It’s been pouring rain since Linda left. My friend told me that we got 1.75 inches of rain overnight! It’s so wet. But that means the spring will be wonderful!

  9. OMG…. Every time you make a quilt I think it’s the best yet. This newest one gave me a physical jolt. Your versi

  10. Nothing like tacos, fabric, and friendship. Opps, and having dogs in the house too!! I so enjoy your posts – I have 3 dogs, and one plays frisbee. Thank you!!

    1. that’s a pretty good combo! My friend was concerned that we had eaten tacos four times while she was here. I told her that was the perfect taco-to-vacation day ratio!

  11. Can’t wait to see that Brandon Mably Festival of Quilt you have in mind! And your idea about a black, white and one colour rendition of the Interweave is a good idea. I did a class with Krista Hennebury (Speed Date with Improv) and we worked in black, white and one colour. The results are stunning (and up on instagram). Give Bender an extra cookie for bringing my first smile of the day!

    1. that Brandon quilt will be wild. I’m not sure I’m able to picture it accurately yet. But it should be fun, regardless of how it turns out.

I’ll check out the speed date thing. I’ve wanted to make a black and white quilt for some time.

  12. I love the photo of Bender. I would never have been able to make one of my dogs sit still for that long!

Very unexpected choices for Interweave. Having made one version of it, I would suggest that you put it up on your design wall before sewing anything and put everything back up as you sew. I moved and swapped out many pieces after my initial layout.  Plus, it’s really easy to mess up the intended order of them; if you look closely at the ones folks have posted, you will observe that. 😉

    1. Bender is an expert poser. He has a lot of experience with it and has gotten a lot of good boy cookies for posing.

I plan to make the rows and then arrange them in order. It would be handy to have Linda here to sew while I organize and pin!

  13. Bender is just too cute!! I’m exhausted just reading about all you’ve accomplished in the last few days with Linda. You inspire me. I’d like to do the flower basket quilt but not too sure if I’m crazy about the plaid. I even went out and bought the book “Quilts by the sea”. Yours looks fantastic, so we’ll see, maybe it will grow on me.

    1. Oh man… for me the plaid makes that quilt!!! I love it!!! it ads so much vibrancy and variation to such a dark quilt.

I love that book. there are several quilts in there I want to make.

  14. I was reading some of the comments and noticed that they had 86* F weather!! Here is Alberta it is -21 C feels like -30 with the wind chill🥶❄️. But tomorrow it will be +5 C. and then back to the minus temps for the weekend. 🤷🏼‍♀️ That’s winter life in Alberta ☃️🇨🇦

    1. I’m so glad I don’t have to deal with those terribly cold temps here. We’ve just had a really wet winter. The last few weeks have been really rainy. A friend of mine told me we got 1.75 inches of rain last night! it’s so wet! But we’ll have a wonderful spring with all that water.

      Anne

  15. That’s going to be exciting!

I was thinking about making an all Brandon quilt too since my stash of his fabric is exceeding the shelf space. I haven’t decided on a pattern yet.

    • Thank you for all of your posts
    • I read everyone of them because there are always very interesting tidbits and fun within
    • Your furry companions are growing on me too. They sure add a lot of you to your life and that makes me smile

  16. Bender looks fabulous!!! Made my day.
Wonderful selection of fabrics. I liked the pattern you proposed.
Can hardly wait to see how that is accomplished.

  17. You are the best enabler I know😂💖. I’m ordering the pattern interweave, and some more Kaffe or maybe some Jason Yenter or who knows? Thanks again your quilt is looking fantastic already

    1. funny how that works. I’ve seen several really cool Interweave quilts in the last week or so and now I have so many ideas for them!!! it’s like heroin!!!
