What Once Was Lost, Now is Found

I found them! I found my curtain rings! After looking in every drawer and cabinet three or four times for a week, I found them under a small pile of fabric scraps on my cutting table!

So I took a few minutes tonight, while my sewing room is all torn up, to get my NY Beauty wall hanging up on the wall.

And now the next thing on my list is to get my sewing room back in order. Oh, and I have to adjust that curtain rod. It’s not even and it will drive me nuts!

My sewing room is a mess… Truly a mess. I still have piles of indigo batiks sitting in bins on the floor… sitting there since I was working on my Wensleydale quilt. I have stacks of fabric all over my chest of drawers in that room. I’m thinking the state of my sewing room might be part of what is keeping me out of there!

We had a good weekend. Saturday found us at Rico’s sheep herding lesson. We had three weeks off so he was really happy to be out there again with his wooly friends and he did such a great job! What a good kid.

On our way home we stopped at the field with the creek to let the boys run. They haven’t been there for so long and they really had fun.

Bender took off on his own and headed through the trees and brush for the creek. I heard a big splash and then I could hear his collar tags as he was shaking off. He came back looking like this.

I’m pretty sure he took a nose dive into the muddy part of the creek! He didn’t seem to mind.

There were several other people in the park with dogs. They all kept their distance, but as we were getting ready to leave a man who was with some dogs came up and was asking me about border collies. One of the dogs he had with him, his “grand dog,” was a border collie, corgi, cattle dog mix and it was really cute. He said he had always wanted a border collie and had recently purchased some property and was anxious for a herding dog.

My boys, of course, were good boys as we conversed. They never looked at him.

It was a really beautiful day. It was good for all of us to get out.

As we were heading for the freeway to make our way home I saw a sign for “U-pick” peaches, so I made the turn and picked ten pounds.

A good summer peach is my favorite fruit. I eat a LOT of them every summer and I don’t feel at all guilty about it.

I picked a nice little harvest of my strawberries this evening. I’m going to have them with my breakfast tomorrow.

I played pickleball today for almost four hours! I had a blast but was sooo tired by the time I was done. I can see the benefits of my lessons! I’m doing a better job of holding my own out there with the better players. And I’m loving every minute of it.

Another work week on deck. I’m starting to plan some vacation time in September. I need some time away!

  3. I’m glad you found the curtain rings. It’s definitely annoying when you know you have something but can’t put your hands on it. Your NY Beauty quilt is gorgeous hanging on the wall. I think I’d spend a lot of time admiring it instead of sewing. Peaches are one of my favorite fruits. It would’ve been a challenge for me to have stopped at picking only 10 pounds! Keep enjoying the summer!!!

  5. It sounds like your having a wonderful summer, love the wall hanging and those are some beautiful peaches, one of my favorites along with apricots, it is always fun to see what Bender and Ricco are up to !

  6. I used curtain rods with the curtain rings to hang design walls/ quilt batting in my former house. I was a great way to do it in a basement with cement block walls. It is so smart to hang quilts this way.

    Bender! Such a happy dirty dog! I love it! But then I don’t have to clean him up. He and Rico are such good boys and cute to boot.

    Chaos reigns in my sewing area as well and I can’t seem to be bothered to get it ultimately organized. I am always working on something. Binding my veggie quilt now and will finish hemming dress for wearing in the fall. I guess I will need to do it again someday soon.

    Next up is an owl quilt. I got one block done (20″x20″). It’s for my son (40+yo) so it is black, white , and gray. Background is black on black prints. I am liking the block but it is time consuming/fussy, so I won’t be chain piecing it. The risk of a mistake is too high.

    Enjoy the peaches, the crazy spring weather ruined our local peach crops. 😦

  7. I am happy you found your long long curtain rings. I enjoy reading your e-mails especially about your beautiful dogs. That is a lovely basket of peaches. Our peaches in the Niagara Region are so delicious this time of year. I also eat lot of them when in season.

    1. I was so frustrated looking for those blasted rings! I didn’t think I’d ever find them.

      then the other night I was looking for Rico’s pedigree and found it on the top of my dresser… first place I looked!!!

  12. That’s a great idea for hanging quilts! Until now I’ve always done the wooden slats in a hanging sleeve, but your idea would allow for different sizes to be swapped out without putting new nail holes in the wall!

  14. Chaos in my sewing room is always a creative crasher for me too. Right now I have a version of the Lorna Doone quilt top on the floor waiting for the additional fabric to arrive to finish it and several other UFOs in the wings. Your NY Beauty is amazing and the peaches look yummy. Our Georgia peach crop was ruined during the spring frost, so ours are not local, unfortunately.

    1. Yup. I feel like I need to tackle that room before I even think about sewing again! Maybe I’ll start on it this week.

      I’m so sorry about your peach crop. that would make me very sad. We had a terrible strawberry season this year. I didn’t have ONE fresh Oregon strawberry!

I LOVE LOVE that quilt.  Actually I love all of your quilts.  You have an amazing ability to choose fabrics and colors. I also love those Cafe rings for hanging quilts.  I have  a really heavy King quilt that I wanted to hang as we no longer have a King bed.  I didn’t think a hanging rod attached to the wall would take the weight, so I found a curtain rod system with heavy duty mounts for hanging curtains from the ceiling.  It uses the cafe rings.  I  put a dozen rings on the rod before we installed it.   It’s been fantastic.  I can change quilts out seasonally, and even though I need a step ladder, the process is fast and simple.  AND cost effective.     1. I love the ability to change quilts out. I hope the clips aren’t too hard on the fabric. I’ll be keeping an eye on it over time. your solution sounds great!

    Don’t ever feel guilty over eating a peck ‘o peaches!
    They’re my fave too (having grown up on a peach orchard in Utah). Enjoy!

    1. I had a co worker in Salt Lake who’s family owned a peach orchard. I would come home after work and find a bushel of peaches on my porch! They were sooo good!

    1. the pattern I used was called Sausalito. It was a free pattern but I think it’s hard to find on the internet now. There are a lot of similar NY Beauty patterns out there.. even free paper piecing templates.
