It was a really rainy day today. There were no walks for me and my boys. None of us are happy about that.
The good news about that is that I had plenty of time to spend in my sewing room after dinner. So I headed down the hall with the plan to sew a couple rows of my blue quilt together. I did manage to sew two rows together.

Once that was pressed I pinned it to the already completed four rows and rolled it up to make it easier to sew.

I watched the David Attenborough show about the pliosaur skeleton that was found in England as I sewed. It was Philip Jacobs, one of the fabric designers in the Kaffe Fassett Collective, who discovered the snout that led to discovery of the entire skull.
Once this larger section of my quilt top was pressed I decided to run a line of stitching around it to stabilize it since all those corners are on the bias. I figured it would be easier to do this with a smaller portion of the quilt, rather than dragging all that bulk through my machine when it’s all sewn together.

Once that was done I got this back up on my design wall.

It’s going to be rainy again tomorrow night so I might push myself and get the four final rows done tomorrow. My friend will arrive on Friday afternoon. I’d really like to have this done before she gets here.
My sister in law sent me a photo today of her new quilt and pillow cases on the bed in her guest room. This quilt will eventually be on their bed but she has company coming this week and wanted to use it for them.

It looks pretty warm and inviting!
One more day and then my vacation starts! I do have one meeting I have to do on my drive to the airport on Friday morning. Then I’m free!
I really need a vacation.

This quilt Is bloody GORGEOUS!! Your design?? I want to make it!!!

Please send some of your moisture to northern Wyoming! It has been a very dry winter for us.
I watched the “Nature” show about the pleosaur (?sp) also, but didn’t realize that the person who discovered the snout was THE Philip Jacobs. 🙂
The quilt and pillowcases you made for you brother and SIL are great!!

At the very beginning of the program you hear Philip’s voice — he’s the one who found the snout on the beach. And there is a text credit with his name. that’s our guy!

Yeah for vacation!
And I, too, use the term “chunking” to describe assembling a quilt top in manageable sections rather than in long rows! I’ve never heard anyone else use the term!

I really dislike sewing long rows of blocks. I have done quilts in quadrants rather than rows in the past. I’m not sure it was a much better approach. I was thinking tonight that I need to find someone who will sew the tops together for me! it’s not my favorite part of the process.

Wow! That sunburst quilt is definitely at home. I think reds and browns play so well together. I hope it will be equally happy on its future bed.

I do love seeing it used. it really is the biggest complement you can pay men when I give you a quilt. part of the beauty of a quilt is the functionality and I love seeing someone make a quilt of mine part of their life.

It’s fun to see it in their guest room. but I’m looking forward to seeing it in it’s intended setting! But I’m really glad that she has it on the bed and Is anxious to share it with their company.

what a great idea to sew the edging before it is done and huge! I just finished the blocks for Moderncraft Snowflake scrappy version—480 3” squares—so I am going to give that a try. Andrea

It is a much easier way to add that line of stitching. I’m pretty happy I thought of that idea!

Wowed by the bed photo. Looks so great. AND the piece on the wall above the bed is spectacular! I have wall hanging envy. 💖. I’m trying to get pieces done for my mountain cabin bedroom walls with similar wainscoting. Wood below and drywall above. I love the improv style and wish I thought I could make it look as good as the photos I’ve seen. There is an art it.
In looking at the photos on my tablet I can see that the wall hanging is an antique and still fabulous. A treasure for sure.
The tip about stabilizing your blue quilt in sections was brilliant. It’s turning out really great.
Vacation…yay you! Have fun!!!

It is an old quilt on that wall. I don’t remember if my sister in law ever told me the story of it or not. I’ll have to ask her about I text time I’m there.
Adding that line of stabilizing stitches to smaller pieces was really a great idea! So much easier to get it done.
