I Just Had to Buy More Fabric

I did. I had to. Because it’s literally been days since I last bought fabric. Plus, I felt the strong desire to replace all the Brandon Mably fabrics I’m using in this new quilt… and a “few” more.

And because I know someone will ask, I bought these on Tennessee Quilts. I don’t tend to shop there often but they had the four fabrics I really wanted. And then it just went sort of crazy from there. None of these were on sale.

These are all Brandon Mably fabrics. They are all part of the Kaffe Fassett Collective. I have no idea what I’m going to do with these, but I will be happier knowing they are all in my stash. They are all so much fun and my brain is buzzing with more ideas for these fabrics! Plus, some of this will be a gift for a friend for her June birthday. It’s good to plan ahead.

I went and played pickleball after dinner tonight. It was a much better night than yesterday. I had some really good games and really enjoyed myself. I was so glad I didn’t have a disappointing play session again.

When I got home I was greeted by two dogs who were clearly not happy with their lack of activity. So I played a little game with them where I hide treats around the living room and they have to find them. We played this game three times. It helped a little.

Games like this are very mentally stimulating for dogs. Working their brains like this for 15 or 20 minutes is as good as a two-mile walk. They are both snoozing on the floor next to me as I type.

I didn’t have much time to sew tonight so all I got done was one row on my Interweave quilt. And it might be my favorite row of this quilt.

That yellow fabric with the blue blooms is so amazing!

I also decided earlier today that I would absolutely make this quilt just nine rows instead of the ten in the pattern. And I decided to remove the fabric I had at the top previously and replace it with this rainbow fabric.

The reason I like that rainbow fabric better is that it brings yellow and green to the top of the quilt. For me, it helps accentuate those colors elsewhere in the quilt.

I’m hoping to have more time tomorrow night to get a few more rows of this quilt done. The weather is supposed to be nice the next few days so this gal and my boys are definitely going to be getting our walks in!

Looks like this quilt top will be done pretty quickly. I had better start thinking about my next project. Maybe another palate cleanser. Hmmm. Ideas.

  1. YES the bright yellow row jumps off the page, first colour your eyes go to …do you buy your fabric in yards or fat quarters. I can’t stop buying fabrics, if I see something that catches my eye on the tv craft shows I have to buy it. Then because there’s a wait until it arrives I’ve forgotten what I ordered so the next time I like a fabric I have to have that to. Then the packages start getting delivered…it’s Xmas all over again. I’m in such a muddle at the moment with my sewing craft I’ve had to order more storage units. I saw open shelf shoe racks in white wood only 18 inches wide but tall with several shelves. I can fill my fabric storage boxes I’m making to put on the shelves…custom made to fit..they will fit each side of my other unit…..you fill me with ideas ..they were a very reasonable price….I’ve also decided to take off the doors of the cupboards beneath the sewing counters and replace with bright curtains on curtain wire. That way I can find things with a flick of a curtain instead of doors of closing on them.

    1. If I’m buying for my stash I usually buy half yards. If it’s something I really love, I’ll buy a yard or two. If it’s something that I love and I know it’s out of print, I’ll buy even more.

I’ve sworn I will not allow my fabric stash to move beyond my sewing room! So I have to stop buying, be more creative in how I store fabric, or start sewing!!!

I found the pattern online. You can find it if you search Interweave Quilt pattern. I don’t remember where I bought it.

  4. In the UK (the part where I live) we have a slang name for umbrella’s – brollie’s – I’m wondering if that’s how the 4 fabrics at the top got their name? Loving the progress of this new quilt.

  5. love the video! Bender keeps looking up and saying “Im cute doesn’t that get me treats? “. I think Rico scored more than Bender. Yeah for supporting the fabric industry. Such fun fabrics.

    1. Rico is definitely better at that game. Bender is good at getting the ones he sees. Not so good at following his nose. And yes… he would like my help!

Love how your new quilt is coming out. When you buy fabric for a future quilt, how many yards do you buy. Your new fabrics are yummy.

  7. You make the most beautiful color choices for your quilts! I too have to purchase fabrics often as I can’t help myself. I appreciate the information on Tennessee fabrics. Can you please let me know where you found the Dahlia Bloom pastel fabric. I can’t seem to find it near me. Sarah

    1. I’ve had that Dahlia Bloom fabric for quite a few years. A local store had some of it. I think I bought all of it as they don’t have I any more. I still need to come up with a plan for that. I had thought sashing for something. It’s been out of print for some time.

  8. I so enjoy your blog and Instagram. We have the same taste in Mission oak furniture. Ourvpugs might enjoy this hunt, but they have short, inefficient noses. We’ll have to try it. And your new Kaffe (as many of your quilts), are inspiring.

    1. When I lived in Salt Lake I owned a little craftsman bungalow that solidified my love for mission style. It doesn’t really go with my 1967 ranch house in Portland, but I still keep buying it!
