Feeling Good Enough To Sew

After a great day (more on this later), I felt good enough to hit my sewing room tonight and finish the yellow and blue Frankenbag I’ve been working on. I had to completely cut and construct the lining and pockets and then sew the lining to the bag body and do all the finishing. Here’s the result.

It seems like forever since I’ve done any sewing. It’s amazing what being busy and sick will do to your sewing time!

Here’s some more detail. I just love this lining fabric!

More eye candy…

You might notice that I added a beaded zipper pull to this bag on the placket zipper and pocket zipper.

I don’t know why it took me so long to remember to add a zipper pull. I’ve been adding them to zipper pouches for some time. Several years ago I bought a bunch of spools of different colors of faux leather and a bag of wooden beads. They are so quick and easy to make and make finding the zipper pull so much easier.

I even pulled a finished bag out of my closet and added zipper pulls.

It rained this morning, but the afternoon brought better weather so I loaded the dogs in the car and headed out for a different friend’s place to run Bender and Rico in her field. We had a wonderful time. These boys do love to get out and run!

OMG! I just love it here this time of year! Look how gorgeous it is!!!

After our field run I decided to take some back roads on the way home. We wandered around the Balk Peak area until the road we were on turned into a dirt road and eventually met up with a street I’m familiar with.

Then I had to pull over and take in the amazing view. It as gorgeous but windy.

It was just a striking day with amazing and dramatic skies.

Good grief. Look at that!

This made me feel so good! Nothing like going from being stuck in the house to being outdoors in such a vast space.

When I got home I threw some spaghetti sauce on the stove. I had planned to make it for my brothers while they were here and needed to get it cooked since I had thawed some hamburger and sausage.

It made a really nice dinner, especially since I’ve been craving pasta. I have enough left over for a few dinners and got a couple containers in my freezer for later.

  1. So glad you’re on the mend, back to sewing, and had a great day yesterday! Please take care of yourself and make sure not to overdo as you recover. As someone who is usually on the go, I know it’s easier said than done. 🙂

    1. A little over a year ago I sat down with some KFC scraps and just did some mindless crumb piecing. I ended up with two pieces that were large enough to make a tote bag. So I just started constructing the bag. And when it was done, I liked it so much that I dug into my orphan block box and started building piecing around those blocks. Then just started adding features and refining the pattern from there.

      I called it a Frankenbag because the first ones were made from left over pieces, just like Dr. Frankenstein’s monster!

    1. Border collies can definitely cover ground when they are full out running! It’s pretty amazing to watch. And yes… there are some gorgeous places near me. It was so beautiful yesterday!

    1. I do sell a lot of the bags I make. Although I don’t make them with selling in mind. It’s just nice to be able to sell them since I’d be buried under a pile of bags if I couldn’t!

  8. Oh,Anne! So glad you are feeling better! Just watching the boys run lifts my spirits, you can’t help but smile 😊! The yellow lining is spot on with the blue, so good together. I want to get some faux leather, is that 1/8” ? So the beads are 1/8” diameter hole or 1/4”? The Bald Peak video is beautiful, would love to spend time there. The spaghetti 🍝 sauce is making me hungry, do you have mushrooms or is that yellow squash in there? Yum! 😋

    1. It turned out really good! But, alas, I don’t cook much with recipes. I just make it up as I go. Burger, Italian sausage, tomatoes and tomato sauce, mushrooms, onions, garlic, thyme, oregano, basil, garlic, salt and pepper. I would have put some wine in if I had some open.

  10. So glad you are feeling better! What a gorgeous place you live in. Our daughter is looking for a house to rent in the Portland area, she has wanted to move out there for awhile now and is finally getting serious about it. She is near us here in WI but works for Grist which is out of Seattle so she’s on your time but we are 2 hours difference. She loves the weather out there but not here. I hope she finds a place soon and then I can come visit!

    1. Good luck to your daughter. It’s not an easy rental market and it’s not inexpensive here. I hope your daughter likes rain! We get a lot of it. but we don’t have the cold winters, so there’s that.

    1. Well, I know that getting out somewhere beautiful does a lot for me! So much more healing that a trip down town or to the mall! I love feeling very small in very large places. It was really gorgeous.

  14. Glad you are feeling better. I’m sorry you missed seeing your family. I enjoyed reading all your posts as your planned for your brothers visit. Hopefully you will be able to see them soon.
    What amazing scenic photos! We have lived all over the USA and each place had beautiful landscapes if you looked hard enough, but I will say that once we settled in Colorado we felt like the mountains had called us home.
    Our daughter lives in Washington St. and I never get tired of the rugged beaches and the sight of Mount Rainier making an appearance.
    I love the flower fabric and the beaded zipper pull is a great idea!

    1. I love living near the ocean and the Oregon coast is spectacular, but I really miss living near the mountains and seeing them every day. With our winters and climate, we rarely see the mountains here. But there is some gorgeous countryside here and the foliage still seems odd to me after living my entire life in the high desert. I just love wandering the backroads and seeing unexpected views. And now I’m thinking I need to get out in the car again today to see something different!

    1. Can’t wait to see your Aboriginal bag! I already have some ideas running around in my head. I need to make a bag for a friend’s birthday and thought I knew what I was going to make, but I might have changed my mind. Stay tuned!

    1. Yup! But I’m lucky that my case has been relatively mild… not much more than a cold. Hoping that it stays that way and there aren’t any longer effects.
