I’m so Chuffed!

I posted some photos of my Brandon Mably Interweave quilt on the Kaffe Fassett Collective page on Facebook yesterday. And today Brandon Mably, the fabric designer, commented on it! Here’s an image capture…

What an amazing honor to have the fabric designer say such wonderful things about what I made and about me as a creator! I’ve been smiling since I saw this!

I’m laying on the sofa winding down at the end of the day. It’s around 10:30 and I’ve already taken Advil PM so I can get to be early since I lose an hour of sleep tonight. Have I mentioned before that my favorite day of the year is the day in the spring when we go to Daylight Saving Time? I just LOVE having that extra light I the evening! I’m so excited.

You might be laughing that I’ve Taken an Advil PM at 10:30 and am planning an early night. Well, I typically stay up until 2 am every night. I’m a died I the wool night owl and at 10:00 at night I have hours left!

I started out my day at 8:30 for pickleball. Only six people showed up but I got a lot of play and had some good games. After that I high tailed it down to Molalla for Rico’s weekly sheep herding lesson. He was pretty wild today! I think the rainy weather this week and his lack of activity may him especially enthusiastic. The weather was nice…

Toward the end of our lesson a wild squall came through. The rain was falling sideways while the sky was blue in the background. Luckily it didn’t last very long. Good think Rico doesn’t mind if he gets wet.

Our drive home was lovely. I just love winding my way north through farm country after our lessons.

We drove through a few little squalls on the way home.

When I got home I did a little sewing and put together about ten more of the low value nine patches. After a walk with my boys and a good dinner I was back in my sewing room making bland nine patches. I got everything sewn that I cut out last night. I think I have a total of 30 nine patches. I’m thinking I’ll need 40 for this quilt top.

Since I’m using strip sets there are going together quickly and easily.

I might make a few of the green blocks that will make this quilt interesting. I still have a little planning to do, but not much. I’m pretty much ready to start cutting and then get sewing! Can’t wait to see how this looks.

I got invited to play pickleball tomorrow. It should be some good games.

  3. Anne, that is absolutely the greatest feeling! To have Brandon call you out and praise your wonderful choices and your extreme talent! Wow indeed, how awesome! And you and Brandon keep all the rest of us inspired every day! Thank you so much.

  4. Wow, Anne! As you wrote, what an honor to have Brandon Mably write such a wonderful comment about your quilt!!! The accolades are well deserved as your creations are always gorgeous. You always put your own spin on patterns and colors, which makes them unique. I think I might print that screen shot, border it with some Brandon fabric, frame it, and hang it in your sewing room. During times when your inspiration well is running on the low side, I can see where it could be just the motivation that you need to get back on the sewing path! I hope you stay on Cloud 9 for a long time!!!

  5. “Walking on sunshine” comes to mind! On those dreary days you’ll always have those warm and genuine comments to remind you what a creative quilter you are. Your fans can comment here on your blog but to actually have Brandon, Phillip or Kaffe speak up…. well there’s no topping that in my book. Congrats. You truely were worthy of his praise for such a unique use of jumble and ALL Brandon designs. And your response was gracious as well. I’m just saying…. Walking on sunshine….

  6. Kudos to you! I’m not surprised Brandon was impressed – you have an amazing eye for putting fabrics together and I’m not sure I’ve even seen a quilt with just his designs!

Can’t wait to see what you do with the greens on the current quilts! My brain is speculating – alternate plain blocks, green nine patches, HSTs made with half green, half low volume, green frames for those little nine patches – what will it be???

I’m sure it will be amazing, whatever it is…

    1. Had wanted to do a quilt with all Brandon designs for some time. It definitely has a unique feel. It’s special.

It will probably be a few days before I have that green fabric worked up. I have a busy week! I hope it works!

  10. I like more light in the evening so I don’t start thinking it is bed time at 6 pm. However, I am a morning person, and often start work at 7. I don’t like riding my bike to work in the dark. I really think daylight savings time is silly now.

    1. I saw a saying earlier this year. “Every night at midnight I’m surprised to find out it’s only 6 pm!” Haha! That’s me! I would be happy to have it stay dark until 10 am if I could get more light in the evenings during the winter.

  13. I’m not at all surprised that Brandon Mably commented so favorably on your quilt! I’m always amazed at how you make such phenomenal fabric choices filled with color and varieties of value, pattern, texture, and scale. I’m always amazed at your work and wish I had your gift for picking fabrics! You are truly an amazing and intuitive artist. And also so generous to share what you do.

    1. You know, I always feel like I just pull a pile of fabrics, maybe too many, remove some that don’t feel right, and that’s it. I don’t agonize over it. There must be something natural there because I have a hard time explaining how I choose fabrics.

Thanks so much for your lovely comments!

  14. I find drinking a magnesium drink CALM is a better sleep aid than Advil PM. Easier on your liver for sure plus it tastes good. Maybe give it a try..?

  18. That Brandon ‘tipped his hat to you’ is just recognition for your wonderful choice of colour and execution. You are so worth it – being so creative. I live the opposite end of the day to you. I am up before 0430 and love the early morning and sunrise [when there is one in the Northwest!] but go down by 9pm. enjoy the extra hour of evening light, I will try not to scowl. cleo

    1. I always just feel like I throw fabrics together. I’m lucky that things just work!

I used to hate getting up early in the morning. It’s easier now than it used to be because I have chosen recreation that requires I get up early. I can do it but I’d rather stay up late!

  22. How wonderful to be recognized by Brandon Mably for your wonderful Interweave Quilt. I’m wondering how he “discovered” it. Kaffe and he should feature it in their next book! It’s truly wonderful. I’m thinking about making an Interweave quilt with Aboriginal fabrics. Hmmmmm?

    1. I posted it on the Kaffe Fassett Collective group page on Facebook. Philip Jacobs is there all the time and comments often. Brandon is there occasionally. I think he scans what’s there every now and again an probably recognized all his fabrics in my quilt.

I think the interweave would be great with Aboriginal fabrics. the blocks are big enough to let those prints sing!
