Well, It Got Me Too

I was all ready for my vacation to start this morning when it was brought to a screeching halt by a positive COVID test.

So, no vacation for me. No trip to Seattle to see my aunt. No visit with my brothers. And all that work in getting my house ready, and I’m the only one who will appreciate it. At least I have a fridge full of food to hold me over!

I feel pretty good. It really only feels like a cold and not a very bad one. My sinuses are congested and I have a cough but not a terrible cough. And I had a fever earlier today but Tylenol took care of it. I’m being careful to drink lots of water and eat good food. I just had dinner and I hadn’t eaten since lunch. It just never occurred to me to eat. I had pulled some home made chicken tortilla soup out of my freezer this morning.

I have all the stuff ready to make spaghetti… I planned to make it for dinner tonight. So I will make a big pot, eat some, and freeze the rest. It will be nice to have that in the freezer too.

My doctor has approved monoclonal antibodies and they should be delivered tonight. They help boost your antibody response and help make the virus more mild. I also had my second booster vaccine about a month ago. So if I had to get it, this is a good time to get it.

I had a few phone calls with nurses and doctors today. Apparently, I should feel better soon and my symptoms should be gone in five days. Then I’ll need to isolate for another five days. Pretty much the exact length of my vacation.

So, I’m thinking I may just go to work next week if I feel ok and will plan some vacation time when I’m better and can enjoy it.

Since I’ll be stuck at home for ten days. I hope I’ll feel better in the next couple days so I can get into my sewing room and get some stuff done. Since I can’t go anywhere, I think I’ll actually work a few days next week instead of burning my vacation sitting at home. Then I’ll schedule some vacation later.

I’m pretty sure I picked it up at Pickleball on Sunday. I’m still wearing masks to the grocery store. So pickleball was the first indoor activity I’ve done without a mask.

Apparently the pandemic ISN’T actually over!!!

Bender is already terribly bored with this sickness stuff. He played and played with this ball this morning and then fell asleep like this! He was so groggy when he woke up!

Hopefully I’ll be able to get out for some walks later this weekend. The doc said to be sure I don’t over do it. But these boys are going to be bouncing off the walls if they don’t get their walks!

I leave you tonight with this… Where’s Rico?

Please send positive energy my way!!!

  1. Oh I am so sorry you have caught it. For the first 2 years of Covid, I did not know anyone who had caught it, now people close to me are getting sick.

    Get the rest you need.

  3. Get well soon! I had same symptoms in January! Very mild cold. Tested positive! We only had to stay out of work for 5 days! I went back to work and just wore a mask outside of my office! I too was vaccinated and one booster at that time! Got my 2nd booster in April!

  5. I so sorry to read that you caught IT. My husband and I are on a trip back east to see family and and attend a wedding and we also caught COVID. We are now isolating instead of getting to visit. We think we caught ours at one of our hotel breakfast bars. Great timing! Good luck with the monoclonal antibodies.
Hope Bender and Rico are good nurses. My two BCs have been more than patient with us!

  6. Oh my gosh I’m so sorry. Bummer. Very bad timing. VERY! I hope you at least had fun at pickle ball? The boys will just have to run around the yard for exercise. Maybe a squirrel will visit and give them something to chase.

  7. I’m so sorry you have Covid! I, too, had shots and boosters, but recently came home from a fabulous cruise on a Sunday and started feeling bad on Tuesday….tested positive. My doctor had me get an infusion. It took me a couple of weeks to regain my energy, but I have autoimmune disorders, too. Please take care and get some rest! Get well SOON!

  10. So sorry you’re going thru this and feel so bad. This virus is still hanging around. I had it 2 yrs ago and it was the sickest I’ve ever been! I thought I’d never stop coughing…for 2 months! My 95 yr old sister had it at the same time and within 1 week she was gone! It’s the ugliest virus ever! I still have shortness of breath and can’t walk very far without getting out of breath.. I’ve since had all the shots but it’s scarey to think I could get it again. I’m so sorry you’re so sick. You worked so hard to get everything ready for company. I hope you start feeling better real soon and I know Bender does too! Hang in there…rest and get well. I’m keeping you in my prayers. ❤🙏🙏

  11. Oh hope you feel better soon!! I had a short stint of the Delta variant early Nov, lasted 4 days, its staying home that gets you. At least your pups will get you out and your sewing will occupy your mind. Do take it easy tho. There will be another vacation!! Jocelyn (also a border collie owner and scrap quilter…who is loving your Frankenbags 😉)

  12. Sucks your getting covid AND on your vacation! Sure hope you stay mild and get over it quickly! Do NOT forget to eat. I didn’t eat for several days and a nurse told me that’s the worst thing I could’ve done. Keep your strength up and rest as much as possible.
You have a great yard. Take that bath mat and ball outside, plop down in your comfy chair and let the boys shag em down! You need your energy for healing!
Bender cracks me up! That pic was too much.
    Get well soon

  16. So sorry you’re under the weather. That’s a great idea to work if you’re up to it and save your vacation days for when you’ve recovered. Although it’s soooo disappointing after the anticipation of family time and all the work you’ve put in to fixing, sprucing up, and cleaning the house for your guests, the only good thing is that you tested positive prior to their arrival. Your aunt won’t be exposed either. I’m pretty sure that thought goes nowhere near balancing your disappointment. And unfortunately, no, the pandemic is not over. I’m a special education teacher in an elementary school, and I am here to tell you that COVID is alive and well. For the last two weeks, there has been quite the uptick in cases. Numerous classes have reached “outbreak” status. Last week, almost twenty staff members were out. There aren’t enough substitutes to cover the sheer quantity of absences. This week, two of my colleagues were out. My instructional assistant covered one of the classrooms, and I covered two caseloads of special ed students in three different classrooms. So, no, from my perspective, it’s not over. 😦 Sending positive thoughts your way. Please take care of yourself.

We are all 2nd shot boosted too, but my Step sister is planning on flying from Florida on Wednesday to visit my Dad. Hmmmm – we have been super careful wearing our masks everywhere but she doesn’t. I wonder if Rico and Bender would get Covid and how would it affect them? Keep us posted on your progress.

  31. Well golly. I am so sorry! What a disappointment. You were so good about planning ahead and preparing for it all. And it sounds as if you have been very careful, as well, trying hard not to get COVID. Not fair. So very many of our family gatherings have been canceled or delayed because of Covid in the past two years. I feel your pain. Sending you healing vibes and hoping you are better very soon.
